Beauty and Nature

Beauty in the eye of the beholder

The Photographer

About me

Picture of Me

I am an amateur photographer. I have been involved in photography since October 2008. I love creating images that move people, be it a sad emotion or a sense of peace. The greatest reward that I get from creating those images is appreciation expressed from others. The following are the scenes that I love taking photographs of:

  • seascapes during sunset
  • images that I can turn into HDR
  • macro shots of flowers or small things
  • people be it posed or natural

A lot of my images are post-processed using either Camera Raw or Adobe Photoshop or both and also Photomatix for my HDR images. I love it when I can get the ‘dream’ images on the spot and straight out of my camera. I find that by getting the images that you want on the spot saves a lot of your time/effort. But I feel that certain images that I take can be improved by processing them in Photoshop.

How I know about photography – I acquire my knowledge of photography through books, online search, friends and seminars/workshops. I also learn from experience when photographing a scenery/subject as well as during editing them.

I am very picky when I want to shoot a scenery. Usually I imagine what I want out of my pictures prior setting up my camera on location. I find imagination helps me to get the shot that I want (after post-processing it of course). I do get frustrated when I could not get the images that I have in mind when I shoot a certain scenery or object. The feeling of frustration sometimes discourages me but my way to get out of it is by taking shots of other subjects for a while before getting back to the previous scenery/object.

When I have the time I usually spend it  taking pictures. I spend roughly one hour photographing a subject. This happens on Friday and Sunday morning at the comfort of my home. That one hour comprises of getting the mood of the image, this involves playing with the lighting, composing the picture and adjusting a variety of camera settings. After I am done, I usually end up with over 100 pictures, sometimes over 200 pictures. But I love it when on very rare occasions, I manage to get “the shot” in less than 100 shots.

More about my personal life. I have been married since September 2007. My current job is a research assistant in a local university. In the year 2008, I came across photographs in flickr when I was searching for the location of a beach. What I found amazed me. I was mesmerized by beautiful pictures not to mentioned stunning images taken by some of the photographers in the flickr community. I was immediately hooked, I wanted to be like those photographers, capturing the moment on camera. From there, my education in photography began.

I feel I would not have gone this far if I did not have the full support of the people surrounding me. Especially my husband. He pushes me when I need the motivation, he comforts me when I feel down and most of all, he allows me the freedom to do things that I want. My siblings who continue to believe in me, in my creation. My cousins for their ongoing support. And finally, all of my friends in photography, for answering my questions and doubts, guidance and mentoring. You guys are the BEST!!
